Why measure pH and temperature?
Get the fundamentals of growing right, every time
Healthy growing plants, just like humans, need a balanced diet of appropriate nutrients (food). However, plants can only access these nutrients when the nutrient solution is within a certain pH range.
From a water chemistry perspective, pH (potential Hydrogen) plays a pivotal role in making the nutrients in your solution soluble so that they can be accessed by your plants. That’s why if your growing solution becomes too acidic or too alkaline, the plants won’t be able to get access to the nutrients they need to grow. The temperature of your growing solution is equally important as having a solution that’s too hot or too cold can affect growth rate and structure.
To help your plants thrive, get the fundamentals right by measuring pH and temperature to ensure that these are always in the optimal range.
A compact and robust handheld solution
Everyday accuracy of the fundamentals
This user-friendly and hardy handheld pen will take measurements in increments of 0.1 pH and is fully temperature compensated, so you can expect accurate readings every time.
New Zealand-made quality, built for growers
Our products are designed and built for grower environments - not the lab - so you can relax knowing that your pen can withstand the knocks, drops and deep-water plunges that come with everyday growing. In fact, the fully waterproof Bluelab pH Pen is designed to float when it lands up in your reservoir.

Bluelab Conductivity Pen (EC or ppm)
The ultimate handy solution for measuring conductivity (EC or ppm) and temperature! The Bluelab Conductivity Pen simply tells you that your plants have the right amount of nutrient in your solution and lets you know if adjustments are needed. To feed plants well, we need to know what we're feeding them. Start with a quality nutrient. Measuring the conductivity every day is the best way to avoid over-diluting or over-concentrating your nutrient solution. Completely change the reservoir solution every 7 days. Top up the nutrient level between changes - so your plants always have the right amount of food. The Bluelab Conductivity Pen also measures the temperature of the solution, as root health is vital to the success of a crop. Temperature affects the growth rate and structure of a plant so a solution temperature of 18 - 22˚C or 65 - 72˚F is recommended. To make sure the plants can get at the food, you need to measure the pH of the solution. Check out our handy Bluelab pH Pen so you have every tool required to manage your nutrient solution. |

Bluelab Probe Care Kit – pH & Conductivity
Probe cleaning and correctly storing pH probes ensures you get the most accurate readings possible and will maximize the life of a probe.
The probe surface is where the instrument takes the reading of the solution or soil/media. If the probe face is dirty or contaminated, the readings may be inaccurate. Much like the windshield of a car, if it’s dirty you can’t see out! If the probe face is dirty, it cannot read the solution or soil accurately.
A tip… if the conductivity reads low, the probe needs cleaning. pH probes specifically, should be kept wet at all times for optimal performance and life.
