How the Sylvania Grolux 400W HPS lamp works:
The Sylvania Grolux 400W HPS lamp is a dual-spectrum lamp with a high 58,000 lumens output. The lamp produces light mostly in the red part of the spectrum for excellent flowering but also produces some blue to make it also suitable for the vegetative growth stage.
Using the Sylvania Grolux 400W HPS lamp:
Using a clean cloth to hold the lamp, screw the lamp into the E40 bulb-holder fitting of your reflector. Always screw the lamp into the lamp-holder in your reflector as tightly as possible by gripping the lamp with a clean, dry cloth. If the lamp is not screwed in as tightly as possible, arcing can occur between the centre contact of the lamp and the lamp-holder. This melts the solder contact on the bottom of the lamp, causing damage and making it un-useable. Connect your reflector cable to your 400W HPS ballast. The wattage of your ballast MUST match the wattage of the lamp you are using or there will be a high risk of fires or equipment damage. Ensure the lamp is completely clean and free of dirt, grease and finger-prints before switching on.
Warning: Once the lamp is switched on it runs extremely hot. As with all high pressure sodium and metal halide bulbs it is necessary to avoid touching the lamp with anything such as fingers or plants as this may cause severe burns or fires. In particular avoid sprays or liquids coming into contact with the lamp as this may cause premature failure or even an explosion.
The Sylvania Grolux 400w HPS lamp is a great all-round, value-for money grow-lamp! As with all lamps the light output they produce will decrease with use over time. We recommend you replace your lamp regularly to maintain garden efficiency.
